I was browsing the Internet earlier today, and I found myself looking at an Internet window claiming I had a virus (see the picture below). It wanted me to call an 800-number to have it removed.
So, Bryan, what did you do?
Well, I did not call that 800 number. What I did is closed my Internet browser. However…
They’ve gotten smart – you close it, it re-opens. They are trying to make it sound convincing.
I had to press Control + Alt + Delete, and then select “Task Manager.” Afterwards, I was able to end the “Chrome” task.
IF YOU SEE MESSAGES LIKE THIS WILE BROWSING THE INTERNET, do not believe them. Do not call the number, as the “agent” will then log in to your machine and either a) install “antivirus” software that is outrageously expensive, or 2) attempt to find sensitive information.
